Tooth-Coloured Fillings
Our knowledgeable dentists carefully select fillings that match the original shade, shape and texture of your tooth. Getting a cavity filled right away can prevent you from experiencing tooth pain, tooth sensitivity and tooth loss. When you come to our office for a filling, our dentists will make your visit relaxed and comfortable and use state of the art tools to make fillings stronger than ever.
Tooth-coloured fillings bond directly to your tooth to last longer. These types of fillings are the same colour as your natural teeth, cost less and are quick to apply (within one appointment for most cases). We offer three different materials for fillings: composite, glass ionomer and porcelain, depending on where the tooth is in your mouth.
Tooth-coloured fillings can work wonders for your smile. Visit us at Pender Harbour Dental to see which option fits your lifestyle best!
Extractions
Your permanent teeth are meant to last a lifetime, but tooth extractions are sometimes required to prevent further pain and infection. Extractions are sometimes necessary for patients with a crowded mouth, a damaged tooth or an infected nerve. In severe cases, extractions can also prevent the bacteria in an infected tooth from entering your bloodstream and infecting other organs.
The best way to know if you need a tooth extraction is to visit us regularly.
Our dentists at Pender Harbour Dental are specially trained to make you feel comfortable and relaxed during your extraction. Before the extraction, our dentist will give you a local anesthetic to numb the area around the tooth. This prevents you from feeling any pain. Instructions will be provided after your appointment to ensure a speedy recover.
For patients who need specialized sedation, Dr. Hynd has taken advanced training in Oral Conscious Sedation and would be happy to discuss your treatment alternatives with you.
Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth extractions are typically required when your third molars or wisdom teeth begin to erupt. These molars have the potential to grow improperly and crowd your mouth, which can cause you to experience pain or tooth damage in the future. Food can also get trapped around your growing molars, leading to infection and periodontal (gum) disease.
Through our use of modern dental technology, our dentists can monitor the development of your wisdom teeth and remove them, if necessary. These are a type of extractions many patients require, and if this is the case for you, early removal of your wisdom teeth can be key to your overall oral health.

Oral Cancer Screening
Did you know that only 35% of oral cancer cases are diagnosed in the early stages when it is most treatable?
Since early indicators of oral cancer can’t be clearly seen by the naked eye, our team is trained to spot oral cancer making it even more important to have regular exams. We look for cancer on every recall and new patient exam and our hygienist has extensive training on identifying oral cancer during routine hygiene visits. If abnormal tissue if found, a biopsy is ordered to further examine the tissue.
Early detection is the key to combating oral cancer, so stop by our office for regular check ups. Learn more about oral cancer prevention and signs of risk here.
