Our caring team has experience in most areas of dentistry and try hard to have our patients needs met right here on the coast. But, if we can’t help you, then we have a strong group of specialists we work with and can provide a referral to ensure you get the best care possible.

Dr. Robert Hynd
General Dentist

Dr. Robert Hynd graduated with Distinction from the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry in 2005. Following dental school, he worked in remote northern communities in Saskatchewan, the Yukon, and Northwest Territories before settling on the Sunshine Coast. Dr. Hynd practices general dentistry with a focus on oral surgery, particularly implantology. Dental implants are a predictable way to replace missing teeth and stabilize loose dentures. He takes great satisfaction in helping improve and maintain each patients’ oral health. He believes in a preventative approach emphasizing meticulous oral hygiene and regular visits to our skilled and friendly dental hygienists.

Dr. Hynd has taken a great deal of advanced training in oral surgery and specifically dental implant placement, restoration and care. He takes great pride in helping people with missing teeth or loose fitting dentures.

In his “free time,” Dr. Hynd enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and swimming.

Dr. Lisa Virkela
General Dentist

Dr. Virkela graduated from the University of Turku in Finland. She later received her licence to practice dentistry in Canada in 1992. She truly enjoys her work as a dentist and her special interests are orthodontics and aesthetic dentistry.

In her spare time, she is passionate about boating and enjoys gardening and exercise. Dr. Virkela is the proud mother of two daughters, a son, and five grandchildren

Dr. Endre Sinkovics
General Dentist

Dr. Endre Sinkovics, or Dr. Dre for short, graduated from the University of British Columbia. He is originally from Budapest, Hungary. Dr. Dre is passionate about his profession and eager to make a difference in people’s lives. He would often hear that patients appreciate his kind and caring approach to dental care. He believes in finding the root cause of a problem and educating the patients while also providing gentle treatment for their concerns.

Before dental school at UBC, Dr. Dre completed an Honours degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry with a Minor in Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University. During dental school at UBC, he was selected to participate in an implant elective course, which established his early interest in this field of dentistry.

When not at the office, he enjoys his hobbies which include sports and playing music. He also loves spending time with his wife, be it staying in and cooking together or going on adventures in nature.


Darlene
Registered Dental Hygienist

Darlene has worked as a dental hygienist with Dr. Hynd since 2007. Her views on the importance of dental care are shared by both Dr. Hynd and Dr. Virkela and she considers it part of her job to educate her patients about how their mouths contribute to their overall health. She strives to be an integral part of her patients’ improving health by promoting proper home care and education. When Darlene is not at the office you may find her golfing or boating with friends. More recently Darlene has acquired her private pilot’s license and is now exploring the Harbour by air too.

Rosa
Registered Dental Hygienist
Rosa - Registered Dental Hygienist

Rosa is originally from Brazil and moved to Sechelt in 2007. Although she misses her tropical roots, she loves life here on the Sunshine Coast. She is passionate about dental hygiene and loves taking care of her patients. Rosa became a registered dental hygienist in 2006 while living in Toronto. In her spare time, she enjoys watching soccer with her two sons, and loves watching them play soccer as well, also enjoys her garden, doing arts and crafts, and traveling.

Monika
Registered Dental Hygienist

Monika moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2012. She grew up in Vancouver and visited her family on the Sunshine Coast since childhood. She completed her Bachelors of Dental Hygiene at Dalhousie University.
Monika strives to provide patients with thorough dental hygiene treatment, in a caring environment. She believes in the importance of educating patients on good oral health practices for their overall health and well-being. Monika is the proud mom of two boys. She enjoys spending time with her family in the outdoors and gardening.


Zena
Dental Assistant
Zena - Dental Assistant

Zena has been working at Pender Harbour Dental since 2019. As a local, she has fun chatting with familiar faces everyday and also likes making the newcomers feel comfortable. She really enjoys assisting with hospital dentistry and other surgical procedures but is happy assisting with whatever the day brings. She is currently taking her CDA online and is excited to expand her skillset once she has graduated. In her downtime, she loves hiking, dirt-biking, camping, and spending time with friends and family.


Jenna
Dental Assistant

Jenna grew up on the Sunshine Coast and has worked as a dental assistant since 2022. After working in veterinary medicine for over a decade, she decided to jump into a new career path. She enjoys interacting with patients and helping them feel comfortable before, during and after their dental treatment. Activities you will find Jenna enjoying in her spare time with her husband and Jack Russell Terrier are mountain biking, surfing in Tofino and camping.

Anna

Anna grew up on the Sunshine Coast. She has experienced the skilled and caring dentistry from both Dr. Hynd and Dr. Virkela, which inspired her into a career in Dentistry. Her education is in Business Administration. Outside the office Anna volunteers with the SPCA and Girl Guides of Canada. In her spare time, she also enjoys baking, exploring local parks and trails, and camping.

Anne
Reception Manager
Anne

Anne moved to Pender Harbour in 2007 with her husband to raise their family, a son and a daughter. She gained her knowledge in the dental reception field from working in offices in Whistler and Squamish. Favorite pastimes include going to the family cabin, exploring up the mountain, and learning how to garden. She has recently taken up golf and plans to get out to the Pender Harbour Golf Course as much as possible.

Coralie
Receptionist

Originally from England, Coralie moved to Canada in 2017 in search of adventure. After spending three and a half years in Vancouver, she moved to the Sunshine Coast to be with her partner, Luke, and has traded sky-scrapers for dense woodland. Coralie is new to dentistry, but she is enjoying the challenge of working in a new industry and values getting to know her local community and greeting them each day.

When she’s not working, Coralie studies graphic design online at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She paints and draws when she’s got a few minutes to spare. Mostly, she enjoys snuggling up with her puppy, Herbie, cat, Wynnie, and spending time with her partner, Luke.
